Wayne Ellington and the Detroit Pistons (37-34) will travel to Portland to take on Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers (44-27) on Saturday March 23 at 10:00 pm in the Moda Center. This is the first of the two matchups between the two teams this season with the next being in Detroit next Saturday.
The Trail Blazers last game was a victory against the Dallas Mavericks, 126-118. The rookie sensation, Luka Doncic, led the offense with twenty-four points. New Maverick, Justin Jackson scored twenty-one, Jalen Brunson had sixteen and ex-Knicks Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., scored fifteen and fourteen. Damian Lillard scored thirty-three to lead the offensive attack from the Blazers. Seth Curry and Enes Kanter added twenty and fourteen off the bench to have the Blazers top the Mavericks.
The Pistons put on a strong display of offense and defense with their 118-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The Pistons had another balanced attack with seven Pistons in double figures. Wayne Ellington led in points again with twenty-three. The big man duo of Drummond and Griffin had sixteen and seventeen points respectively. Luke Kennard, Ish Smith, and Thon Maker had sixteen, eleven, and ten of the bench and Reggie was the last Piston in double figures with fourteen. The Suns attacking duo was on full display with Devin Booker’s twenty-six points and DeAndre Ayton’s twenty points and eight boards.
It was good to see the Pistons start off their western conference trip with a win.I would predict Detroit’s starting five to remain unchanged teamed with Jackson, Brown, Ellington, Griffin, Drummond and Portland’s as Lillard, Layman, Harkless, Aminu and Nurkic. Portland needs every victory they can get in the super tight Western Conference but with out C.J. McCollum, the Blazers could struggle. I will predict a 121-110 Blazers victory tomorrow night.
